Happy Hour: Lover's Leap, A Pink Bourbon Cocktail

Lovers Leap Bourbon Cocktail With A Twist | Dine X Design There's something about pink fruity cocktails that just makes some mouths pucker / cringe with the thought of overly sweet drinks, kitschy decor and little tropical umbrellas...which is unfortunate, because we luuurve everything about that whole tiki experience (it's a lifestyle  after all, pineapple shirts & dresses encouraged).

The pink-hue trend has had a recent resurgence, surprisingly conjuring up sophisticated (and rock n roll) style applications across the board. The color is a vibrant pigment being applied to kitchen and dining room decor, but we're seeing it also shaking up the  typical cocktail.

Fragrant. Feminine, not overtly girly...the new wave of pink drinks is bringing something unexpected and minimalist to cocktail hour.

Relying on color alone, little pageantry (or accessorizing) is needed when putting together a beautifully blush cocktail. Clear statement glassware allows the color of the drink play center stage.

Where there might be some  still discouraged by this trend on pigment alone, we've devised a way of swaying you into a spunk-filled pink cocktail without you having to locate your local palm-thatched hut.

Let's just say that pink has taken over our lives these days...and we're adding in some bourbon.

We've asked resident DxD cocktail consultant and Austin-based bartender, Becca Yannone to tell us about her take on the perfectly pink (late afternoon...or early evening) happy hour pick-me-up.

Welcome our new spring fling: Lover's Leap.

Bourbon. A perfect spirit.

It needs no embellishment, except maybe a single cube. With the arrival of  spring... and summer soon at our doorstep, we're finding the need to chant "tiki, tiki, tiki" (as a celebration of the season) under our breath. Bourbon, is the perfect spirit to mix things up - I created "Lover's Leap" as my personal drink-translation of falling into spring. It's Basically a spring fling with bourbon... where you two are the hot commodity and rum is giving you the eyes.
