Do you ever feel like pouring a glass of wine is just too easy? Did you win first place at the science fair? Are you in need to sip on a new thoughtful cocktail this weekend!? Well darlings, you are in luck!

Cost Plus World Market asked me to roll up my sleeves, put on my speakeasy suspenders (is that a thing? If not, let's make it one) and take these Home Cocktail Infusion Kits to next level happy hour status with inspired recipes. And let's face it...I'm a sucker for good packaging and these are just as fun to look at as they are to experiment with.

First up - The Old Fashioned! Breaking open these kits was an exciting adventure that made me feel like a cocktail mad scientist. And where enjoying an Old Fashioned alone, is a divine way to happy hour...I thought it would be great to play upon the infused citrus and spice notes and create something a little extra special.

Using the infusion, I created a playful spin on a refreshing Moscow Mule with a nod to my home state of Michigan. Tart cherry simple syrup and a Vernor's ginger ale float made a surprisingly vibrant refreshment worthy of showing-off these new found old-fashioned brewing skills!

Speaking of...there's still some Old Fashioned mix left...who's coming over for a frosty mug?!

Looking for something a little more dangerous? Perhaps a refined drink with a long misunderstood history?

How about taming the elusive spirit that is Absinthe? This kit is a little more complicated, having several infusion stages, but the rewards are big. And if you show up with a bottle of this to your next party people will be thoroughly impressed.

Part-lab experiment and part-exercise in trust, I was uncertain what the final results would hold while observing the murky stages of infusion. Sure enough, when the final vial of brewing ingredients were added in, colors began to shift and eventually revealed a slightly emerald-hued glimmer of hope.

Spirit-making success!

If pouring absinthe over a sugar cube is not your idea of cocktail hour, you can start by celebrating this old-time spirit with a classic 1930’s cocktail such as The Corpse Reviver #2! It's a classy drink that has a much more delicate look than it's name suggests.
